On Sunday, November 29 at 3pm attheMerkin Concert Hall of Kaufman Center (129 W. 67th St., NY, NY 10023), the Italian American Opera singer Cristina Fontanelli will take part in the 6th edition of the "Christmas in Concert" annual event.
This year Cristina will also have the Montfort Academy Choir performing with her. The Monfort Academy is a private Catholic High School that places strong emphasis on Italian culture.
Joining Cristina Fontanelli will be Maestro David Maiullo on piano, John La Barbera on mandolin/guitar and Ernie Barry on the accordion.
The “Christmas in Concert” event has always been supported by the very singer Fontanelli who wishes to preserve the legacy of traditional Italian music. In her music she make an effort to preserve the Neapolitan genre that on her opinion is losing ground during the recent Myspaceera. Her participation in this concert pays homage to her Italian origins and her own family, too.
The Italian American singer, also famous for her Italian folk songs as well as for her Neapolitan and Christmas ones, has recently performed at this year’s Columbus Day Parade on the New York Post float, and sold-out her upcoming March performance at Feinstein’s at the Regency.
What makes Ms. Fontanelli very well known to the public is the Opera genre for which she has performed all over the world, including Tokyo, Paris, Milan, Cairo, Dubai, Hong Kong, Istanbul and Uganda. Here in the US, she has performed at the Clinton White House, The Presidential Inaugural Ball in 2005 and prestigious venues such as Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center and the Boston Symphony Hall.
